Rodrigo has described and helped lead CBA’s engineering transformation, combining automated checks, service ownership and operational reviews for the bank’s engineering teams. Rodrigo Castillo is Group Chief Technology Officer at Commonwealth Bank of Australia, appointed in July 2026. The remit covers the technology foundations, engineering, security and AI capabilities supporting the bank and customers. After joining CBA as Chief Technology Officer in 2023, Rodrigo stepped into the role of interim Co-Chief Information Officer for Central Technology in November 2025. Earlier senior Chief Information Officer and Managing Director positions at HSBC centred on digital transformation, technology modernisation and modern engineering practices.

At CBA, the engineering transformation couples automated security and quality checks with team accountability for services from development through operation. Speaking at AWS re:Invent 2024, Rodrigo outlined the adoption of DevSecOps alongside weekly operational reviews and blameless incident post-mortems aimed at resolving underlying causes. CBA credited the programme with doubling changes delivered to live systems within a year while cutting customer-impacting incidents and halving resolution times, demonstrating how faster release cadence can reinforce operational reliability.
