Why Paul Strooper is in the Luvo 100

Paul has connected software testing research with engineering problems through projects with railway, control-system and defence organisations. Work on model-based testing and checking software against requirements addresses how engineers can assess complex systems more systematically. Teaching, research supervision, journal editorial service and conference leadership also support the people developing and evaluating software quality methods.

About

Paul Strooper is Emeritus Professor of Software Engineering at the University of Queensland in Brisbane. Across an academic career centred on software testing, Paul has produced more than 140 publications addressing model-based testing, concurrent programs, and methods for checking that software meets its requirements.

Practical engineering challenges have consistently anchored Paul's research. Collaborations with Queensland Rail and Ansaldo addressed checking railway control logic, while projects with Foxboro Australia focused on control-system and embedded software. Work with Boeing Australia examined software process improvement in a large-scale defence contracting environment, bringing software quality research directly into safety-critical industrial settings.

Paul has also contributed extensively through teaching and research supervision, including courses on software engineering and models of software systems. Editorial service for IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering and Software Testing, Verification and Reliability, alongside roles as general chair of ASWEC and APSEC, reflects a sustained commitment to the international software engineering community.
