Neelofar Hassan

Neelofar’s work tackles the difficulty of testing AI systems when a correct answer is not clearly defined. MORTAR addresses this problem for multi-turn conversations, offering an approach relevant to researchers and engineers assessing conversational AI. Research into autonomous vehicle testing and AI fairness extends that focus to other important questions of software quality and trustworthiness.

Neelofar Hassan is a lecturer in the School of Computing Technologies at RMIT University in Melbourne. After completing a PhD at the University of Melbourne, Neelofar held academic and research posts at Melbourne, Monash University and RMIT, investigating automated software testing and the quality of AI systems, including conversational AI, models trained on code and autonomous vehicles.

To address the practical difficulty of evaluating dialogue systems where expected answers are hard to define, Neelofar created MORTAR, an approach applying metamorphic testing across multi-turn conversations in large language models. Further research explores fairness in AI and testing for autonomous vehicles, alongside service on the AI IDE 2025 programme committee.
