Brian Osman

Brian combines practical testing education with opportunities for testers to learn from one another. The Agile Testing course work focuses on critical thinking, useful feedback and everyday contributions to software teams. KWST co-organisation and Speak Easy mentoring also support peer learning and new conference speakers, helping testing experience reach a wider audience.

Brian Osman is an independent facilitator, keynote speaker and KWST co-organiser, working independently across New Zealand. Based in Sydney, Brian has trained testers across Australia and New Zealand for many years and co-organises the Kiwi Workshop on Software Testing. Conference speaking, including at StarWest, sits alongside teaching context-driven testing: an approach that adapts testing to the needs and circumstances of each project.

While teaching at Software Education, Brian rewrote an ICAgile-accredited Agile Testing course. The hands-on curriculum combines critical thinking with practical guides for deciding what to test, quicker feedback and lighter documentation. This brings together careful investigation and agile working, where teams learn and adjust through short cycles, helping testers make sound judgements and contribute directly to delivery.

Community work also includes mentoring aspiring conference speakers through Speak Easy. Having tackled initial nerves when first taking the stage, Brian supports new presenters in sharing testing knowledge. Alongside workshop organisation and teaching, this mentoring helps broaden the range of voices contributing to the testing community.
