Why Amjed Tahir is in the Luvo 100

Amjed’s research addresses practical questions about test reliability, bug prediction and code quality that matter to software testers and developers. Leading a project on detecting and predicting inconsistent tests brings a focused contribution to understanding when automated checks can be trusted. Academic programme leadership and recognised service as a research reviewer also contribute to software engineering education and research quality.

About

Amjed Tahir is Associate Professor and Software Engineering Subject Leader at Massey University in Palmerston North, New Zealand. After completing an MSc in Software Engineering at Staffordshire University and a PhD at the University of Otago in 2016, Amjed focused on understanding and assessing software quality. Earlier research appointments include time at Auckland University of Technology’s Software Engineering Research Laboratory and the University of Malaya’s Department of Software Engineering.

In studies spanning software testing, maintenance, security and source code quality, Amjed concentrates on test smells and flaky tests to establish whether automated checks can be trusted. Between 2021 and 2023, leadership of a funded project advanced techniques for detecting and predicting tests with inconsistent behaviour, running alongside investigations into software bug prediction and identifying security bugs in copied or automatically generated code.

At Massey University, Amjed has served as Director of International Education for the school’s international and offshore programmes. Honours include a 2021 Distinguished Paper Award at the International Conference on Program Comprehension and a 2023 Distinguished Reviewer Award at the International Conference on Software Engineering.
