Adem Cifcioglu

Adem has combined accessibility strategy with practical testing and development support, including implementing an accessibility testing programme for NAB’s online systems. That work gives technology teams standards and guidance for finding and addressing barriers to use. Through Intopia, accessible development workshops and Melbourne community events, Adem also helps organisations and practitioners build accessibility knowledge into everyday engineering work.

Adem Cifcioglu is co-founder and director of accessible technologies at Intopia, based in Melbourne. Working professionally in web development and accessibility since 2001, Adem has supported organisations ranging from not-for-profits to large corporates, combining accessibility advisory services, website development and training aligned with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.

At National Australia Bank (NAB), Adem led digital accessibility strategy, contributed to the bank’s Accessibility Action Plan, and designed and implemented an accessibility testing programme for online systems. Key responsibilities included reviewing web content against accessibility standards and helping designers and developers resolve issues, embedding accessibility from initial design through to deployment.

After founding accessibility consultancy Recreate Web in 2012, Adem co-founded Intopia in early 2016. In the wider community, contributions include establishing the Melbourne Web Accessibility & Inclusive Design meetup in 2012 and organising A11y Bytes Melbourne, alongside running workshops and events that share practical guidance on building inclusive digital services.
